STANDARD 7 - ENGAGE PROFESSIONALLY WITH COLLEAGUES, PARENT/CARERS AND THE COMMUNITY
Standard 7.1 reveals the need for educators to understand and comply with the professional code of ethics and act accordingly. The following assignment highlights various areas that need to be considered when changing an aspect of a Centre or School. It shows the importance of researching relative legislation and having discussions with the children, family and fellow teachers in a Centre or School.
Standard 7.2 describes that educators must understand and comply with all legislation put in place by their governing entity. All policies and educational requirements must be followed in order for educators to be active, moral and effective teachers and learners. The following report is from my second Early Childhood placement. It shows my early progress and the advice I had on what I did well and what I had to work on.
Standard 7.3 and 7.4 explores how educators can work in an effective and caring way with families, carers and the community. They should seek to understand the background of each family and be sensitive to their own walk of life. Educators should seek to gain knowledge and understanding from professionals and others in their community. The following pictures highlight various ways I observed family engagement in my placement schools. However, I feel this is an area for myself to grow into as a sole educator in a classroom, and I greatly look forward to meeting families and learning from them.
1. An excursion day with St. Anne's where
some parents joined their children to hear about wildlife conservation. It was a time where parents could be engaged in the learning process. |
2. This was a photo from Grandparents
Day. Here, a young boy's grandparent was helping him learn to create a program on an Ipad. |
3. This is the end of year Christmas carols night. It was a community event run by the school (St Anne's). I felt this was a great way to meet with families and members of the community in an informal way. This was the ending of my placement and I found it was an excellent way of consolidating relationships with various parents and families.

This was myself with fellow teachers and parents at a "Celebrating Nature" day at school. We were invited to dress up as part of nature and have a day of fun activities and food. It was an excellent day where parents felt truly engaged in the education of their child. We had a guest speaker come and discuss issues surrounding the environment and our world. Parents stayed for half the day and could interact with their child as well as other children, teachers and parents in the school.
"The Nature day was one of the best days of the school year! Being a busy working Mum I don't often feel like I am as much a part of my child's learning as I would like. This was a fun day where everyone got dressed up, I could meet many more teachers from various year levels, and also mingle with other parents. Well done on a successful day!"
